A fast growing claims management company has an immediate opening for an Enterprise Data Architect and Technical Team lead. Engle Martin is a leading national independent loss adjusting and claims management provider. We are in the process of planning to build a new data warehouse and analytics capability in the Azure cloud. This is a unique opportunity to leverage your deep technical skills and experience in data warehousing and business intelligence. You will use new technologies and methods to create a platform built on sound data quality as we establish a data-driven culture of decision-making. The successful candidate should have significant experience using Agile development methods, the Microsoft SQL Server Tool Stack of SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, T-SQL, and the Microsoft Azure platform. This position requires deep technical experiences in understanding data models, developing ETL, creating quality code, and implementing data solutions which business values. This senior technical role will lead IT team that interfaces with business partners to provide excellent service to our company’s clients. Business Intelligence requires excellent collaboration and communication skills with business people to gather requirements, design, test, and develop solutions, and provide support as needed.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead the technical design, development, testing and deployment of: a new cloud-based data warehouse, data catalog, ETL scripts, and BI reporting and analytic solutions
• Profile and analyze source system data to determine data relationships, design constructs, consistency and quality.
• Perform data quality assessments, root cause assessment of data quality issues.
• Develop and maintain data governance framework including: data catalog, data quality metrics and reporting
• Evaluate and assess existing legacy data assets with an eye on modernization and simplification. Supporting implementation of upgrades and future developments of data governance tool suites.
• Create and maintain our critical data model, data catalog/business glossary, metadata definitions, that allow data to be understood and leveraged as a shared asset
• Collaborate and communicate with business to understand business needs and translate them into sound architecture and designs, efficient performing code, and high value business solutions
• Research, evaluate, identify alternative approaches, recommend, design and code efficient and effective solutions for challenging problems ranging from small to large work efforts
• Comply with standards and guidelines related to the design, construction, testing and deployment activities
• Demonstrate collaborative skills working within a project team of diverse skills and bring clear and concise communication skills including oral, written and presentation skills, creativity, and problem solving skills
• Identify opportunities in business processes and system capabilities for continuous improvement
• Provide technical guidance, direction, and mentoring to technical staff

 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical area of study
• 7+ years Professional IT/Business related experience
• 7+ years of SQL development experience (developing procedures, functions, SQL queries, etc.) using the Microsoft Technology Stack (SQL, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS)
• 7+ years of ETL development experience with SSIS
• 7+ years building and supporting code within a Microsoft Data Warehouse environment
• 7+ years of hands-on experience in architecture, design or development of enterprise data solutions, applications, and integrations
• Knowledge of data architecture and design patterns and the ability to apply them
• Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, data access/security, build-out and maintenance of a data catalog
• Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new business domains and technologies
• Strong problem solving skills
• Ability to conceptualize and articulate ideas clearly and concisely
• Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
• Hands-on experience with modern enterprise data architectures and data toolsets in the Microsoft environment (ex: data warehouse, data marts, data lake, 3NF and dimensional models, modeling tools, profiling tools)
• Significant experience using Agile development methods

PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• SQL Database development experience within Azure, includes Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Catalog, Apache Spark
• Familiar with Sage ERP MAS 500 applications
• Familiar with Microsoft Dynamics/Office365 platform
• Prior DBA experience is a plus
• Storytelling, data visualization, user interface/user design, using Excel, SSRS, PowerBI or Tableau or Qlik products
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Strong analytical and technical aptitude, able to think critically and objectively about process improvement, with emphasis on process automation and streamlining
• An understanding of a variety of modeling and/or diagramming techniques, with the ability to create process flow diagrams and the ability read data flow and entity relationship models
• Experience and knowledge in insurance and claims management industry
• Auto Insurance industry knowledge
